Steamboat Springs firefighters Matt Newman (front to back), Brian Shively and Joe Oakland compete in the hose race during the 16th annual National Firefighters Ski Race at the Steamboat Ski Area on Friday. Twenty teams of firefighters — wearing full protective gear — put their skills to the test while carrying a 50-foot hose through the course. The Steamboat team posted the fastest time of the day, but a complex scoring system gave the win to a team from Laramie, Wyo.
