A fire destroys the Main Lodge at Lowell Whiteman School on Feb. 9, 1977. After returning from their spring foreign trip, Lowell Whiteman students finished classes at Perry-Mansfield, and construction began on the Charley Williams Lodge that summer.


Lowell Whiteman stands with a Native American in Mexico in the 1950s or 1960s. Whiteman’s interest in Mexico was part of the impetus for the two-month foreign trips students take each year.
