On March 8, the Hayden Middle School wrestling team placed first at its home tournament — the Northwest Colorado Invitational. Despite being plagued by sickness, Hayden Middle School proved strong with only about half its team. Steamboat placed second, and Meeker placed third. Nine schools participated. Steamboat Springs Middle School eighth-grader Krista Halsnes drives her dogsled carrying fellow eighth-grader Kailee Duryea on Tuesday around the school track. Students at the school were doing a little hands-on learning to coincide with an English unit in which they are reading books by Jack London. Students are about to read “Call of the Wild.” Krista, a dogsled racer, volunteered to teach students about the sport and its history.
