On Dan Smilkstein: Consider Emerald

I like what I read, but I'm not swallowing all of it.
I don't like such dense housing in this region.
Keep the density in the new developments going up further West of town.
I think large parcel development is the lesser of two evils on Emerald.

The City of Steamboat Springs missed even a *greater* opportunity in serving notice to our community.
Alcohol and drugs had waaay more to do with this death than the fact that the unit he was living in was legal or not.
http://www.steamboatpilot.com/news/2008/…
“David Engle had a high concentration of alcohol in his bloodstream when he died June 15 after a fire in his Steamboat Springs apartment, according to a toxicology report released Monday. The report also shows Engle had cocaine and marijuana in his system.”
Pay attention to the *real* problems in this community City Council.
Who are you trying to protect here???

Recall Stahoviak and Monger!!
But not before making them ride a bike (or wheel chair) up and down 36 in heavy, two way traffic to experience what a nervous and uncomfortable feeling *that* is!

Too, bad the police didn't have the chance to duct tape a citation to the cyclists casket as they lowered him into the ground. ;P)
Live and let live.
The cyclist got the crap beat out of him, and the scare of his 19 year young life. The driver got a good story for his grandkids.
That's punishment and driver satisfaction enough for me.

Ethanol is such a great idea, no?!
It seems to me the increase price of food should also be factored into the increased price of gasoline.
I'm curious to know the additional dollar amount per gallon of gasoline that the use of corn as fuel has caused, and where it's expected to go in the future.
Ethanol is bassackwards.
My (and just about every) vehicle actually gets noticeably *lower* fuel economy using ethanol fuel. It may (directly) cost a few pennies less per gallon at the pump, but, I have to buy *more* of it to go the same distance as fuel without ethanol in it. And not only that, but I'm paying higher food prices for the use of ethanol as well.
We should pump the billions of dollars that are used to create the Ethanol infrastructure into producing more fuel efficient automobiles and alternative transportation.
Wouldn't you rather drive a 100 mpg car or ride a bicycle around town than pay $10 for a bag of Dorittos?!

Philip Morris and the Marlboro Man have almost half of the 1.3 billion people in China addicted to nicotine.
They'll all be dead in 20 years of lung cancer if all their fugly pollution doesn't get to them first.
Stomp out Communism - buy stock in Philip Morris!
On second thought, Communism *needs* to be in China.
The last thing the planet needs is 1.3 billion more people to roam freely about the earth.
Keep the Chinese in China!
God bless Communism! ;P)

I highly doubt if Steamboat chooses to get rid of Triple Crown, that no other equal, or even greater, economic opportunity will fill the void.
Steamboat can do much better than Triple Crown, the “white trash” of summer vacationers.
Triple Crown is not the type of vacationer that the ubber builders of the new Steamboat are trying to attract.
You don't see Jim Cook jumping up and down to keep Triple Crown around, do you?! No. Rather, he and others are pouring millions into high end construction projects, not *baseball* fields.
It seems a conflict of interest between (and waste of) the City's Triple Crown effort and the direction this new development is taking Steamboat.
Imagine the quality and disposable income of the visitors that would flock to Steamboat if the city of Steamboat dumped “shock-and-awe” sums of money into the arts, culture, baby boomers, etc.
Take note City Council.
Take the small, temporary economic hit and risk. Let Triple Crown go. Go after organizations that desire what the millions of dollars that are already being pumped into the new Steamboat will offer.

Refocus is right!
The downturn in the credit market and economy is the saving grace of Steamboat.
I sooo love to see the pain and anguish on those who desire a Steamboat “Neuvo”.
Now you got what you deserve; empty and half baked development projects.
Just think about all the bloodied lives you took down with you in the process!
The established, 30 plus year family businesses, bulldozed.
The hundreds of people and families, uprooted and forced from their trailer homes.
Think of the pain and anguish you put on them in your pursuits.
I say we bring back Dos! Pitch the tent, and let the tequila flow as we dance on the blueprints of Atira Group's failed projects!
Fire up the charcoal grills for the Butcher Shop, burgers and beers, slope side!
Roll trailer homes back into Westland and have the biggest bonfire marsh mellow roast that would put the biggest of grins back on Carl Howelsen's face!
The sun will always shine, and the powder will always fall, redeveloped base area or not. Let's take back our town!
