Amen. Easily the worst miscarriage of justice in my 14 plus years in Routt County. There have been others but this one was off the charts.

If the Denver Post article is accurate, the DA's office decided to prosecute this case despite knowing that a Sheriff's Deputy was to testify that he had advised the defendant that he - the defendant - had the right to defend himself against the bully and that “if he ever felt threatened to make a fist and punch the guy in the mouth”. say what????!!!! Who's in charge of this asylum?
sbvor, the cost to defend himself from this frivolous prosecution and the endless hours of distress for him and his family is the undeniable result of flagrant abuse of prosecutorial power. Seems to be par for the course for this outfit!

What will it take for this publication to step up and do what needs to be done to stop Brett Hilling from being considered NW Colorado's “gold standard” for DUI enforcement? SP&T owes this community investigative reports on a number of issues and this one is number two on the list.

When was “Somewhere along the line”? Does the district have an internal audit department or function? Is it audited annually by independent auditors? How do we know that the train wreck hasn't already happened? Are written procedures in place? If not, why not? If so, why aren't they followed? Who made the decision and why haven't they been held accountable? This is inexcusable for any public organization and the school board needs to have some serious deliberation and consider actions far beyond what is described in this article!
