I wrote this about a war photograph in American studies class.
His eyes were blank with determination, a determination too great for words. They seemed to be hypnotized by every sergeant’s command. When the sergeant said go, he ran into war without even thinking about what he was fighting for. A soft smile revealed a strand of pearls which had been hidden for months. His overdue shirt was filled with the soil of many battles. March through January were the longest, hardest months of his life. The end of February could not have came soon enough. ‘Home’ and ‘Shorty’ were embedded in the hood of his shelter. His helmet showed games of boredom, and he has long since felt the feeling of family and home. He, along with many soldiers, have felt this horrid feeling, dwelling deep inside the starters to the shorties; but it shall not be shown in a time of war. -Hannah Beggs
