12,500 ballots already received as Routt County enters voting day

Routt County residents are going to the polls Tuesday in what is perhaps one of the most anticipated elections of our lifetime.

The Routt County clerk’s office said Monday they had received roughly 12,500 ballots and there are roughly 19,000 registered voters in the county.

Roughly 974 ballots were returned as undeliverable, according to the clerk’s office.

Every active voter in Routt County should have received a ballot by mail. Voters who received a ballot in the mail but wish to vote in person can surrender their mailed ballot at a polling location and vote in person.

In-person voting locations in the county are located at the Routt County Public Health & Human Services community Room at 135 Sixth St. in Steamboat Springs.

Voters can also cast their ballot at Hayden Town Hall, at Oak Creek Town Hall, at Yampa Town Hall or at the Clark Store.

All voters who vote at the polls must provide identification to vote in person. If you are voting by mail for the first time, you may also need to provide a photocopy of your identification when you return your ballot, according to the clerk’s office.

There are two 24-hour drop-off boxes located at 522 Lincoln Ave. in the alley behind the Historic Courthouse and 2025 Shield Dr. in the parking lot of the old Sheriff’s Office.

Polling locations close at 7 p.m. and submitted ballots must be received by 7 p.m. on election night.
