13th Yampa Valley Crane Festival coming to Northwest Colorado Aug. 29-Sept. 1

The 13th annual Yampa Valley Crane Festival will take place Aug. 29-Sept. 1 in Steamboat, Hayden and Craig with guided crane viewing and bird walks, a demonstration with live raptors, workshops, documentary films, family and children’s activities, expert speakers and more.
The 2024 keynote speaker is Liz Smith, a whooping crane expert and senior research associate of the International Crane Foundation. Other featured speakers include Michael Forsberg, conservation photographer; author and birder Noah Strycker; author Rebecca Weiss; and CCCC’s Executive Director Meg Karschner.
Sandhill crane expert Paul Tebbel will lead guided crane viewings and present a Cranes 101 talk. Ted Floyd, editor of Birding magazine, with assistance from Andrew Floyd, will lead guided bird walks and offer a special presentation during the community picnic.
The festival will also showcase two conservation-oriented films, one by Max Lamoureaux and one by Mariah Lundgren and Michael Forsberg, who will be present to talk about thier work. Additionally, Nature’s Educators will showcase live raptors up close during a special presentation.
