AARP Foundation now taking appointments in Northwest Colorado for free tax-prep assistance
Due to the complexity of the U.S. tax code, many taxpayers overpay their taxes or turn to paid tax services they cannot reasonably afford. Some may forgo filing their taxes altogether and miss out on the credits and deductions they’ve earned because they are unable to pay for assistance.
To help support taxpayers in need, AARP Foundation Tax-Aide volunteers are back for the fourth year to provide Routt and Moffat county residents with free tax-preparation assistance.
Tax-Aide volunteers are trained and certified by the Internal Revenue Service. The volunteers offer free tax-return preparation to anyone who needs it, regardless of age or income, as long as the preparation stays within the scope of tax law and policies set by the IRS and AARP Foundation.
Taxpayers can make appointments at the Bud Werner Memorial Library from Feb. 24 through April 12 on Mondays and Saturdays. AARP volunteers will also visit Craig and Walden. To book an appointment, visit cotaxaide.org/appt.
