Body found along Walton Creek Road
A body was found along Walton Creek Road, near the Casey’s Pond senior living community, at around 4 p.m. Thursday.
According to Steamboat Springs Police Chief Mark Beckett, detectives remained on the scene as of 7 p.m.
“We believe it may be related to a missing persons case that we received earlier this week,” Beckett said. “But we’re still investigating.”
Police said the body has been recovered and investigators are working on notifying the family.
The following statement was issued by Detective Tabitha Alt at 7:30 p.m. Thursday:
“Steamboat Springs Police officers responded to an unattended death today at 4:11 p.m. near the intersection of Owl Hoot Trail and Walton Creek Road. They confirmed that there is a deceased individual. At this time, there is no sign of suspicious activity or foul play. There is no imminent threat to citizens. The identify of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. The investigation is ongoing and we are working closely with the medical examiner and investigators to determine the cause of death. We ask for the public’s patience and cooperation as we complete the necessary steps. Further details will be released as soon they become available.”
