Family-friendly event featuring big rigs coming Thursday to Steamboat Springs

The annual “Touch a Truck” event in Steamboat Springs event will be Thursday with a sensory quiet hour being introduced this year beginning at 10 a.m.

The event brings numerous city departments including Parks and Recreation, Steamboat Springs Transit, Steamboat Springs Police Department and Steamboat Springs Fire Rescue together, along with the Routt County Sheriff’s Office, Routt County Search and Rescue and Classic Air Medical for a  showcase of specialized equipment.  

Children will be able to get up close to climb, explore and discover their favorite big truck and equipment during the family-friendly activity. Operators will also be on hand to answer questions and explain how each piece of equipment works.



Weather permitting, the equipment that will be displayed includes a Classic Air Medical helicopter, a Steamboat Fire Rescue truck, a Steamboat police patrol car and an animal control van along with Steamboat Springs Transit busses, a Routt County Sheriff’s Office K-9 vehicle and armored rescue vehicle, and a Routt County Search and Rescue truck. 

Other equipment displayed will include a backhoe and a remote controlled water line inspection robot.



The rigs will be parked in the east end of the Rodeo Grounds parking lot near the Howelsen Ice Arena from 10 a.m.-noon Thursday. The sensory quiet hour will run from 10-11 a.m.

The event is free and open to all ages. Public parking will be available in the remaining rodeo ground parking areas. For more, SteamboatSprings.net/youthevents.
