The Routt County Humane Society is inviting the community to a day of excitement, wagging tails and shared purpose with “The Fast & The Furriest: 5k9 Doggie Fun Run & Walk” on Sept. 21. This event promises to be a unique blend of fun and philanthropy, raising essential funds to support the vital work RCHS does for animals and people in need.

The Fast & The Furriest 5K9 is an all-inclusive event which welcomes human and canine participants. With prizes for categories such as “Most Four-Legged Run/Walkers,” “Best Dog/Human Costume Duo” and “Best Team Costume,” there are plenty of chances for everyone to shine.

In addition to the 5K run, which participants can join individually or in teams of five or 10, this year introduces a brand-new element: the Tennis Ball Drop. Before the run begins, hundreds of tennis balls will be released down the 30-meter ski jump at Howelsen Hill. If your ball lands in the goal net, you’ll win a prize. This should serve to add to the fundraising efforts and make the event even more special.

Each tennis ball for the drop is $5, and every purchase supports RCHS’s mission. Even if you can’t attend, you can still participate by buying a tennis ball or two — if your ball wins, you’ll be notified by email.

At a post-event party, participants will have the opportunity to relax with complimentary snacks and beverages while awards are being given out and commemorative T-shirts are distributed.
