Hayden police make felony arrest following disturbance

Hayden police made a felony arrest Saturday after responding to a disturbance in the 700 block of East Lincoln Avenue.

Police responded to a call reporting “individuals were fighting, and (police) could see at least three males involved in the altercation,” according to the Hayden Police Department.

The statement added that two of the individuals left the scene in a vehicle prior to officers arriving and that police spoke to witnesses who reported that a suspect “had confronted one of the (victim) parties over an allegation of property being stolen.”

Hayden police apparently located an injured party walking away from the scene and officers were alerted to a second injured party at the residence, according to police.

“An ambulance from the West Routt Fire Protection District was requested. While deputies from the Routt County Sheriff’s Office checked the area for the suspect vehicle, officers spoke to the injured individuals,” police said.

Officers reported one of the injured individuals said they were “struck in the face with a metal object” before being chased with an “edged weapon.”

The second injured person said he “did not believe he was an intended target,” according to the press statement. Police said neither of the victims sustained non-life-threatening injuries and both declined medical treatment.

Officers subsequently located the suspect vehicle just before 3 p.m. and took an individual into custody.

According to police, Leiner Barquero-Cascante, 44, of Hayden was “interviewed and booked into Routt County jail” on assault in the second degree and menacing. Both are felony charges.

Hayden police added that the incident “appeared to be an isolated event with all parties known to one another.”

Barquero-Cascante is scheduled to appear Tuesday in Routt County Court.
