Law enforcement requests shelter in place near County Road 14B

Routt County law enforcement agencies announced around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday a request for a shelter in place due to police action near County Road 14 and County Road 14B.

The shelter order was was lifted just after 2:30 a.m.

The nature of the incident remains unclear. Drones operated by law enforcement were witnessed in the area shortly after 11 p.m. Officers from the Routt County Sheriff’s Office, Steamboat Springs Police Department and Colorado State Patrol all responded to the area.



Multiple officers on scene declined to comment on the situation, which remained active as of 1 a.m.

Officers on scene would not say why the shelter-in-place order was given or what the nature of the threat prompting the alert was, although one individual suggested it stemmed from a traffic stop.



A call to the Sheriff’s office was not returned as of 1:20 a.m.
