This summer, 10 Yampa Valley businesses or organizations were awarded bronze, silver or gold recognition as part of the Colorado Green Business Network.

The network is a state-level initiative created through the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment that helps registered members complete surveys focused on policy, leadership and resource reduction to earn points toward three levels of recognition for business sustainability.

The recognition levels are based on a range of initiatives that are completed the prior year that demonstrate a commitment to environmental and social responsibility. Efforts range from reducing product waste and energy to offering living wages and paid employee volunteer days.

Newly recognized silver-level businesses include Cowgirl Compost CO, Sunniemade, Steamboat Engineering and Design, and Steamboat Ski and Resort Corp.

Bronze-level businesses include LiftUp of Routt County, Northwest Data Services, UCHealth Yampa Valley Medical Center, Seedhouse Coffee, Gravity Haus Steamboat and Elevated Mountain Apparel.

The businesses or organizations participate via the Colorado Green Business Network of the Yampa Valley operated through nonprofit Yampa Valley Sustainability Council as a regional partner of the statewide network. The regional partner provides free technical assistance, funding and recognition support to any local business interested in joining and improving their efforts toward environmental stewardship.

“Sustainability is a process, and CGBN supports continued efforts to increase operational efficiency and implement responsible policies,” said Ashley Dean, regional partnership manager.

CGBN of the Yampa Valley will host a free public luncheon at noon Sept. 17 in Library Hall at the Bud Werner Library in Steamboat Springs, where representatives from the recognized businesses and organizations will talk about what they are doing in the green business realm.

Registration for the luncheon is required by visiting YVSC.org/colorado-green-business-network. For questions, email Dean at ashley@yvsc.org.
