Neighborhood wildfire protection workshop set for Thursday

Representatives with homeowners’ associations or neighborhood groups are invited to a free educational workshop called Wildfire Mitigation for HOA Leadership from 5:30-7 p.m. Thursday at Library Hall in Steamboat Springs.
The evening will provide education about resources and tools available to make neighborhoods more fire-adapted. It is co-hosted by the Routt County Wildfire Mitigation Council, Colorado State Forest Service and Routt County CSU Extension.
“Catastrophic wildfires are growing in size and frequency each year,” according to Josh Hankes, wildfire council executive director. “Recent events in southern California have been a dramatic reminder of our vulnerabilities. The good news is there are steps you can take as an HOA leader to reduce those vulnerabilities, and there are resources available to help you in taking those steps.”
The workshop, led by local experts in wildfire mitigation, forestry, community resilience and insurance, will explain how to take steps to reduce vulnerability in neighborhoods.
Registration is required for attendees online at Routtwildfire.org/events, and light snacks and beverages will be available.
