Louise Rasque-Fritz was a force to be reckoned with. Though she called Steamboat Springs home for just eight years, her impact on those she met will be felt for a lifetime. Born in Reedsburg, Wisconsin, to Meta and Walter Schenk, Louise was one of 5 children. She eventually met the love of her life, Rollin Rasque, at a dance where they instantly connected. They carried on their families’ farming legacy in Wisconsin, starting with turkeys and eventually moving on to dairy cows. Louise was always in motion, working hard and keeping a tight household. She had a playful side too—on nights when Rollin was out, she’d rearrange the furniture, making his early-morning return a challenging obstacle course. She was feisty and full of life, with a fire in her that shone through her favorite toast: “Here’s to you, here’s to me, and if we ever should disagree, to heck with you and here’s to me!” This was always followed by a big smile and a twinkle of mischief in her bright pale blue eyes.
Louise is survived by her daughter Billie Ackerman and her partner Chip Beebee, her grandsons Justin and Joel Ackerman. She was funny, charming, tough; she was a complicated and a wonderfully complex person—like every one of us. She will be deeply missed, and we’re grateful for the time we had with her. Louise will live on in our memories and in the stories we share.
