Mallory Holt Pollok passed away on January 30, 2024 in Hilo, Hawaii in the company of his beloved son Alexander. Mallory was born July 17, 1954, in Pontiac, Michigan to Honor Stickney Pollok and Benton Holt Pollok. He grew up in Williamsburg, Virginia and Lapeer, Michigan and spent many summers at his maternal grandparents’ farm near Clarkston, Michigan.
Mallory is survived by his son, Mallory Alexander Holt Pollok, his siblings and their spouses, Joan Borel, Mary Kathryn Afable (Fernando), Nicholas Pollok (Vivian), Hart Pollok (Susan), his nieces Catherine Borel, Affia Pollok, Cecile Afable, Madeline Pollok, his nephew Max Pollok, his mother-in-law Ruth Schneider, and many dear friends in Virginia and Colorado, especially Jimmy, Joey, Dennis, Nancy and Rich, Andrew and Mari. Mallory was preceded in death by his wife, Deborah Sue Schneider, both his parents, and a sister, Kathleen Pollok.
Mallory had an adventurous and fun-loving spirit. He played the guitar and was a lifelong fan of rock music. He fell in love with Colorado on a family camping trip in the 1960s and lived there for most of his life. Mallory was an avid skier and became a white-water rafting guide. He attended Colorado Rocky Mountain College and graduated from Denver University in 1982 with a B.A. in History. There he met the love of his life, Deborah Sue Schneider, a smart and beautiful young woman from Craig, Colorado. They wed on August 30, 1986 at the Schneider family’s cabins in Hahn’s Peak Village, north of Steamboat Springs.
Mallory and Deb shared a love for the old mining town and its historic wooden cabins. They were active members of Hahn’s Peak Historical Society and fostered community through their ice cream socials. For ten years, they volunteered as ski instructors for the National Sports Center for the Disabled. Together they founded Pollok Consulting to provide landman services including title examination, mineral and water rights, archeological and environmental permitting. Mallory was a member of the Elks’ Club. Deb passed away in 2011, and Mallory spent his last years at Hahn’s Peak Village. He suffered from lung disease, and in a January blizzard he left Colorado for lush, tropical Hawaii, where he was at peace in the loving care of his son.
