Pinewood Derby benefit to bring high-speed racing thrills to Mountain Tap Brewery this weekend

Mountain Tap Brewery and First Impressions of Routt County will host the Pinewood Derby fundraiser on Sunday, at Mountain Tap Brewery, 910 Yampa St.

Participants were asked to design, build and race their own wooden car from official Steamboat Scouts pinewood derby car kits, with all proceeds from registrations going to the First Impressions Tuition Assistance program that supports local families with early childhood education costs.

The main event will take place on a giant pinewood derby track that will be constructed at Mountain Tap. The track will be built on the patio but may be moved to the dining room in the case of inclement weather. The event will feature four heats, each representing a different entry level. Each heat will have first place winners.

Winners from each heat will compete in a championship race to determine the overall winner. Additionally, a judges’ panel will award the most creative car, and there will also be a prize for the car that raises the most money through sponsorships.
