The United Pickleball Association has selected the newly constructed Steamboat Pickleball Center to play host to the Colorado United Pickleball Association State Championship Series on Sept. 13-15.

Registration has officially gone live for the championship, which will crown the top amateur pickleball players in Colorado, with all proceeds going to local youth pickleball outreach efforts through the Steamboat Springs Pickleball Association and Stop Alzheirmer’s Now.

The Colorado UPA State Championship Series will be at the Steamboat Pickleball Center, which opened in July. The 35,000-square-foot building broke ground in 2023 after raising over $12 million in funds. The building is home to 12 indoor pickleball courts, a pro shop and a mezzanine level for tournament spectators to follow the action.

“To host a national tournament of this caliber at our brand new pickleball facility is an honor of the highest caliber,” said Jayson Harris, the pickleball director for the Steamboat Tennis and Pickleball Complex, in a statement. “Never before has a championship pickleball series of this magnitude been held in Colorado, and we are thrilled to welcome players from across the state here to Steamboat.”

The tournament will host all skill levels 3.0-5.0 with titles of UPA State Champion being earned for each skill level across all six age groups from 18U to 70-plus. There are also five playing divisions — men’s and women’s singles and doubles along with a mixed doubles category.

Each champion earns an automatic qualification for the elite Champions Division bracket, with a chance to advance to the UPA World Championships at the Brookhaven Country Club on Nov. 4-10 in Dallas. An estimated 3,500 amateurs will compete for the chance at a world title.

Registration for the Colorado state championship can be done through PickleballBrackets.com. Space is limited for the tournament.
