Small gun, ammo lock boxes available for free

Due to an overwhelming community response Friday morning, staff at Mind Springs Health in Steamboat Springs are asking community members in need to call in advance to see if gun safety lock supplies are still available.
To help promote safety for individuals and families in the Yampa Valley, Mind Springs Health in Steamboat distributes free, small gun and ammunition locking safes available for community members to pick up. The small safes are provided no questions asked for people in need of increasing household safety. A limited supply of free rifle lock cases and gun trigger locks also are available.
The safes can be used to lock away handguns, ammunition or dangerous medications out of the reach of children or individuals in crisis or suffering from suicidal ideation to help keep a home a safer place.
Individuals in need should call in advance at 970-879-2141 and ask for Tom Gangel or Kirstin Burdge for assistance to see what gun safety supplies remain available.
