One lane on Colorado Highway 131 south of Steamboat Springs was closed for a brief period of time Tuesday as fire crews responded to a handful of spot fires in the area.

According to emergency radio traffic, firefighters arrived at Colorado 131 and Routt County Road 22 just after 5 p.m. and reported four spot fires with flames about one foot in height.

The emergency dispatches said multiple individuals were on scene attempting to put the flames out with rakes when firefighters arrived.

Additional emergency traffic suggested the fires might have been caused by a vehicle dragging a chain.

Crews reported knocking down all of the spot fires by roughly 5:20 p.m., but additional work was being done to ensure there were not any more burns along the highway.
