Steamboat Springs cyclers took home three podiums at the Colorado High School Cycling League State Championship on Saturday and Sunday at Colorado Mountain College in Glenwood Springs.

Steamboat brought 24 of its 28 qualifying riders to the competition with a total of 932 riders competing across four divisions for each gender. The Steamboat Springs High School Mountain Bike Team placed second in Division 2, just behind Durango, with 23 total teams competing for the title.

Steamboat’s weekend got even better when the team was honored with the Team Spirit Award for the second year in a row. Steamboat makes a point to chase the team spirit award at all competitions and won this weekend’s disco-themed spirit contest to close out the year.

Individually, it was Whitney Warnke, Sydney Soard and Quinn Dressen who took the podium at state in the JV Girls, Freshman Girls and Freshman Boys categories, respectively.

Eva Minotto also earned major team points by placing 10th in the Varsity Girls category. She began her race back in 43rd place after only being able to ride two of the four regular season races due to injury. Minotto pushed hard, overtaking large groups of riders ahead of her and managing a top-10 finish in her three lap race. She crossed the finish line in 1 hour, 28 minutes, 46.86 seconds.

Allie Reznicek also had a strong race, taking sixth in the Sophomore Girls race, finishing just 0.2 seconds behind the fifth-place-finisher.

Steamboat has turned into a dominant force in the state cycling league with several runner-up finishes and a state championship victory last year
