The Steamboat Springs girls tennis team traveled to Glenwood Springs on Friday for its final regular-season matches.

The Sailors entered the day having lost just one divisional matchup all season — a 7-0 defeat to Vail Christian. Steamboat left the weekend with wins over the Glenwood Springs Demons and North Fork Miners to maintain an impressive second-place league standing in 3A Region 8.

Steamboat’s first matchup of the day was with the Miners, where the Sailors cruised to a 6-1 victory. The lone loss came from a forfeit at No. 3 singles.

The del Haya sisters, Lucia and Abby, dominated their matches at No. 1 and 2 singles, respectively. Lucia dropped just one game in the match with Abby serving her opponent a double-bagel victory.

Similarly, Lyla Baker and Leslie Jimenez led the charge for Steamboat’s doubles teams with a No. 1 victory over North Fork, 6-1, 6-0. All other doubles teams followed suit with wins over the Miners.

The second match of the day was against the hometown team, Glenwood Springs. Battling the heat, the del Haya sisters held down the fort once again, each with two-set wins in singles.

Taylor Rockford and Vanessa Dorr, No. 2 doubles, had the cleanest win of the match, losing just two games in the first set and none in the second. No. 1, 2 and 4 doubles all managed to return home undefeated on the day.

The Sailors now turn their heads toward the regional championships where the girls will have the chance to qualify for the individual state championship May 8-10 in Colorado Springs.
