Steamboat police and Routt County sheriff’s deputies respond to bomb threats

Officers with the Steamboat Springs Police Department and the Routt County Sheriff’s Office responded Tuesday to unfounded bomb threats at multiple locations in the city, according to a city news release.

Police officers and sheriff’s deputies worked with Routt County Communications and the FBI to identify the subject who made the threats. The subject was thought to be in a mental crisis, states the news release.

Officers with the Routt County Sheriff’s Office and Steamboat police responded to a home on Bear Drive in Steamboat Springs just after 4 p.m. as a result of the threats. Officers handcuffed and detained a man living at the residence but no arrest was reported.



According to the news release, law enforcement found the subject and made contact “without incident,” and the threats were “not substantiated.”

The news release adds that the subject “received additional resources.”
