Preschool programs within the Steamboat Springs School District have received a Level 4 rating from Colorado Shines, a statewide system that evaluates the quality of early childhood education providers, according to a recent statement from the district.
The designation applies to programs at Sleeping Giant School, Soda Creek Elementary and Strawberry Park Elementary.
Colorado Shines rates licensed programs on a scale from Level 1 to Level 5, with Level 4 indicating performance that exceeds standard licensing benchmarks and supports children’s development, health and readiness for school.
District officials said the rating follows a detailed independent review process that assesses factors such as staff qualifications, classroom environments, family engagement, leadership, and student health and wellness.
“Early childhood education sets the foundation for success in kindergarten and beyond,” said outgoing Superintendent Celine Wicks in the statement. “This recognition reflects the dedication of our preschool staff and our commitment to providing high-quality learning experiences for our youngest students.”
Preschool Director Kim Delaney also pointed in the statement to the contributions of teachers, paraprofessionals and support staff, saying their daily efforts help create environments where children can grow and succeed.
The district offers preschool programs at all three elementary sites. Families interested in enrollment or additional information can visit SteamboatSchools.net/Departments/Preschool or contact Delaney at kdelaney@ssk12.org.
