Steamboat to allocate more than $850,000 to Yampa Valley organizations
The city of Steamboat Springs is ready to allocate more than $850,000 to dozens of local organizations serving a variety of needs in the Yampa Valley.
Under the city’s approved 2025 budget, a sum of $851,902 will be spread across 42 organizations with grants awarded between the sums of $2,000 and $61,000.
“As we’ve seen on a consistent annual basis, our community needs continue to expand, and we’re fortunate to be able to support so many in the valley through these vital community groups,” said City Manager Gary Suiter.
“This program not only shows the value of the work these organizations do, but the commitment this community has in supporting these important efforts,” he added.
Funding for the community groups has been included in the city’s budget since 2016 and has provided grants totaling $5,949,532 to organizations classified in three categories: arts and culture, human service, and environmental.
For 2025, the community support coalition funding is budgeted at 1.46% of the city’s general fund expenditure budget less debt service, capital outlay and transfers — a 2% increase from the previous year.
Applications for the funding are ranked on a set of criteria by a selection committee with expertise in the specific coalition. A steering committee then forwards a funding recommendation to City Council.
Funding recipients in the arts and culture category are the Steamboat Symphony Orchestra, the Piknik Theatre and the Steamboat Art Museum.
In the environmental category, 2025 grants will be allocated to groups including the Colorado Cattleman’s Agricultural Land Trust, Friends of the Yampa, and the Routt County Wildfire Mitigation Council.
Twenty-seven human services groups will receive individual grants totaling $490,000. Those organizations include LiftUp of Routt County, the United Way of the Yampa Valley, First Impressions of Routt County and REPS – Reaching Everyone Preventing Suicide.
