Earlier this month, Jaelin Kauf became the first American to earn the crystal globe hat-trick in moguls World Cup history. On Friday, she furthered her standing as the best mogul skier on the planet with her world championship performance in duals.
For the first time in U.S. history, Americans have gone 1-2 at the World Championships in dual moguls with Kauf taking gold and her teammate, Tess Johnson, taking the second podium position.
Kauf, a Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club alum, opened the World Championship event in St. Moritz, Switzerland, taking eighth in singles. She bounced back in a big way with her duals performance.
“It feels incredible, especially after singles,” Kauf said in a news release. “A little bit of redemption out here for duals, and it’s been an awesome day skiing against some really strong women and against Tess.”
Freezing temperatures overnight led to hard, frozen bumps on Friday’s duals course. Kauf bulldozed her way through the first two rounds, taking down opponents from France and Canada to advance to the semifinal against American teammate Kylie Kariotis.
Kauf’s 23-12 victory over Kariotis sent her to the Big Final. Kauf managed the frozen course well, earning her first career World Championship gold after defeating Johnson, 21-14.
Kauf was given the coveted gold 2025 World Champion bib to wear for the award ceremony, a goal she set at the start of the season.
