The Steamboat Art Museum will showcase a collection of hand-finished birdhouses by eight Steamboat Springs Middle School students this Friday during the First Friday Artwalk.

The students created the birdhouses as part of “It Takes A Village,” a four-week project with the nonprofit art program, You Out Loud. The group started in Spring Creek making a portrait using foraged materials and then moved onto exploring their hometown.

They worked on a mural collage depicting what they like about Steamboat and what they wished they had in town if they were in charge. The project finished with each student decorating a hand-built birdhouse donated by local woodworker Paul Williams to create a village for the area’s feathered residents.
