Students in Steamboat are preparing to go back to school. Here’s a schedule of upcoming SSSD events.

The 2024-25 school year is just around the corner with students Steamboat Springs scheduled to start back up next week.

For students in sixth- through ninth-grades in Steamboat Springs schools, classes will start back up on Monday. For all other students, their first day back will be Tuesday.

To help students back into the flow of things, officials with the Steamboat Springs School District have put together a schedule of events to kick off the new year. The schedule is as follows. 



Soda Creek Elementary

Monday, Aug 19

  • Preschool Open House from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
  • Kindergarten orientation meetings — families will be contacted with this info individually
  • 1-1:30 p.m. — Optional new family meeting with the principals in the Media Center
  • 1:30-2 p.m. — Classroom visits for all first- through fifth-grade students
  • 2-3 p.m. — Shaved ice on the playground for all families
  • 2-3 p.m. — Community groups will be set up so parents and guardians can see what’s available in the community for their students

Tuesday, Aug. 20



  • First day of school for all students with a new start time of 8:15 a.m.

Thursday, Aug. 29

  • Back to School Night (5-5:30 p.m. for kindergarten, first- and second-grades; 5:45-6:15 p.m. for third- through fifth-grades

Strawberry Park Elementary

Monday, Aug. 19

  • Preschool and kindergarten orientation 
  • 1:30-2 p.m. — School supply drop-off  
  • 2-3 p.m. — Ice cream social

Tuesday, Aug. 27

  • Back to School Night (5-5:30 p.m. for kindergarten, first- and second-grade; 5:45-6:15 p.m. for third-, fourth- and fifth-grade)

Sleeping Giant School

Monday, Aug. 19

  • Preschool and kindergarten orientation
  • 2-3 p.m. — Popsicle social and school supply drop-off for all families and all grade levels

Tuesday, Aug. 20

  • First day of school for all students with a new start time of 8:05 a.m.

Monday, Aug. 26:

  • 5:30 p.m. — Open house for all families 
  • 4:30 p.m. — Special event for Spanish-speaking families 

Steamboat Springs Middle School

Wednesday, Aug. 21

  • 5-6:30 p.m. — Back to school open house
  • Last names A-L (5:10-5:35 p.m. — Meet student’s Core Teams; 5:45-6:10 p.m. — Meet student’s World Language, Encore, Performing Arts and WIN teachers)
  • Last names M-Z (5:10-5:35 p.m. — Meet student’s World Language, Encore, Performing Arts and WIN teachers; 5:45-6:10 p.m. — Meet student’s Core Teams)
  • 6:10-6:30 p.m. — School and community groups will be set up at the front of the school

Yampa Valley High School

Monday, Aug. 19

  • 9 a.m.-3 p.m. — Registration and drop-in day: Students and families are invited to meet staff, pick up schedules, sign release forms, request a locker and more.

Steamboat Springs High School

Wednesday, Aug. 28

  • 6-8 p.m. — Back to school open house
