Sundance Grand Prize winner streaming free with library card

The Bud Werner Library is offering residents with a library card a chance to stream an award-winning film for free through July 31.

Focusing on poet and activist Nikki Giovanni as she approached 80 years old, “Going to Mars: The Nikki Giovanni Project” won the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival in 2023.

According to the library, the film explores Giovanni’s Afrofuturist-feminist philosophical outlook as well as her relationship with her family, her political audacity and her poetic eloquence, all knit together with an eye and ear for its subject’s own aesthetic verve.

The film is available on Kanopy with a library card. For more, go to Steamboatlibrary.org/events/nikkigiovanni.
