Sunny skies, cool overnight lows forecasted for Steamboat Springs this week

Heavy rains Saturday gave way to sunny skies over Steamboat Springs on Sunday with more of the same expected to start the week.

“Other than some smoke that may be transported to our area from a large wildfire complex burning in California’s Sequoia National Forest to start the workweek, expect mostly sunny skies with cool overnight lows and increasingly hot afternoon temperatures approaching ninety degrees by Friday,” said local meteorologist Mike Weissbluth.

Weissbluth posts twice-a-week local forecasts to SnowAlarm.com. On Sunday, he said several rounds of storms in the area over the weekend — “monsoonal moisture” — were replaced with dry air with the arrival of winds from the southwest.

Sunny skies and high temperatures around the area’s average of 84 degrees are expected to kick off the beginning of the week with higher temperatures in the upper-80s and close to 90 degrees later in the week.

“There is very little hope of precipitation until the weekend when we may see some monsoonal moisture return as it rotates around the high-pressure ridge over the West,” Weissbluth added.
