Winter storm brings heavy snow and frigid temperatures to Steamboat

Local meteorologist Mike Weissbluth said in his Sunday forecast that an incoming storm is projected to deliver a strong cold front and moderate to heavy snow showers lasting through Tuesday, in addition to winds as high as 50 mph at mountain pass elevations, creating hazardous travel conditions.

Tuesday morning temperatures at the top of Steamboat Resort are forecast to be in the low teens, while daytime highs in Steamboat Springs will reach the 30s. Overnight snowfall Monday was expected to deliver four to eight inches, with an additional four to eight inches likely during the day on Tuesday.

Tuesday night through Wednesday morning will see occasional snow showers and continued cold temperatures, Weissbluth wrote, and while the majority of snowfall will be complete by late Tuesday, Wednesday morning may see continued accumulation in town and up to four inches at the resort.

Unstable but somewhat warmer conditions are forecast for Thursday, Weissbluth added. For the full weather report, visit SnowAlarm.com.
