YVEA puts part of South Routt in fire protection mode

The National Weather Service has issued a red flag warning for Moffat County as well as Baggs, Savery, and Dixon in Wyoming, until 8 p.m. Tuesday.

As a result, the Yampa Valley Electric Association has put those areas into Fire Protection Mode and extended the designation for Trough Road in South Routt as a precaution.

According to the organization, the YVEA will remain in fire protection mode, which may involve disabling reclosing equipment, until the red flag warning has been lifted. Additionally, outages may be more likely and take longer to restore during this time.

The YVEA says that, if power goes out during a red flag warning, line crews will inspect the entire affected area before restoring power. However, inspections cannot begin until the wind dies down.

According to the YVEA, if members lose power, they should anticipate longer outages, though the YVEA has no plans to implement a complete shutdown, and the agency says that will only happen if conditions change drastically or at the direction of emergency management.

YVEA members who are impacted will receive a call or email from the YVEA.

According to YVEA, if NOAA cancels the red flag warning at 8 p.m. Tuesday and does not extend it, crews are prepared to work Tuesday night to put the system back into normal operations.
