Letter: Hopefully, residents at Casey’s Pond will not have to move out

I was shocked to discover that the place I moved into recently, Casey’s Pond, is in receivership. Apparently, this means that whoever can and does pay the bonds used to build Casey’s Pond can take over ownership of the building. Therefore, all the people now living at Casey’s Pond may need to find another place to live, which could be away from family. I guess Casey’s Pond did not have enough people to fill the space in the beginning because of COVID and a nursing shortage, and were unable to fulfill the required payments.

The original Doak Walker Center was connected to the hospital. However, because the hospital in Steamboat wanted the space for more services, the Doak Walker Center had to move. Now, the Doak is connected to Casey’s Pond. The Doak is an important care center for those persons who require more time for healing after serious injuries and sicknesses. I had to be there twice because of my difficult time healing from continual hip dislocations because of nerve damage from a historic car accident in 1980.

I’m getting used to living here and like my space in spite of less room than my three bedroom condo. Hopefully, money will be found to pay off the bonds so the many residents will not have to move again.
