Letter: Important info for voting in the upcoming election

My name is Jenny Thomas and I serve as the Routt County Clerk and Recorder. I wanted to give some important updates regarding the 2024 Routt County Presidential Election.

Ballots will begin to be mailed to voters starting Oct. 11. It takes time for the postal service to sort and deliver the ballots. So, if you do not receive your ballot by Oct. 21, come into the Voter Service and Polling Center to obtain a replacement or vote on a machine.

This November’s ballot is a two-page, four-sided ballot. Please remember to return both pages and sign the envelope on the signature line. Ballots can be dropped off at the Clark Store, Clerk’s office, Hayden Town Hall, Oak Creek Town Hall and Yampa Town Hall during their normal business hours.

We also have two ballot drop boxes open 24/7 at 2025 Shield Drive in the parking lot of the CLEF and at 522 Lincoln Ave. in the alley behind the historic courthouse. Ballots must be received by 7 p.m. on Election Day. Postmarks do not count.

The Steamboat Voter Service and Polling Center (VSPC) will open at 135 Sixth St. in the Community Room of the Health and Human Services building on Oct. 21. The hours are 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and Saturday, Nov. 2 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. On Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 5, there will be three Voter Service and Polling Centers. These will be located at Hayden Town Hall, Oak Creek Town Hall and 135 Sixth St. in Steamboat in the Community Room. The hours on Election Day are 7 a.m.-7 p.m.

The last day you can request a ballot be mailed to you is Monday, Oct. 28. After this date, you will have to come in person to obtain a replacement ballot or vote on a machine.

All of this information will be on the voter instructions included in your mail ballot packet.

As we move through this election, remember that we are all in this together. Your vote is your voice and the most effective way to communicate your views. We are all neighbors, community members, family members, human beings. So, let’s respect each other and ourselves and be the example the next generation of voters can look up to.

If you have questions, please visit our website at Co.Routt.co.us/221/Elections or give us a call at 970-870-5558.

On behalf of the Routt County Clerk and Recorder’s office, thank you!
